The Loma Linda University Medical Center replacement hospital includes new adult and children’s hospital wings constructed under California OSHPD authority. The base-isolated structure is decoupled from earth retention systems and designed to accommodate significant seismic movement. Working for Beck Steel in collaboration with NBBJ, ARUP, KPFF, and McCarthy, Innova engineered the primary and secondary egress structures for both hospital wings. Because egress elements were included in the primary permit package, designs required early coordination and rigorous compliance. Our team developed egress systems capable of accommodating large differential movements while maintaining life-safety performance under stringent California seismic standards. In addition, the structural team designed the stairs and rails for both towers.
